Rules & Regulations

Guidelines to keep our community safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone. Read these carefully before joining your first group ride.

Our Values

D.O.P.E Cycling Club is built on mutual respect, safety, and the love of cycling. These rules ensure that every member has a positive experience and that we maintain a welcoming environment for cyclists of all levels. By joining our rides, you agree to follow these guidelines and help create a supportive community.

Safety First

  • Always wear a helmet on every ride
  • Use front and rear lights in low visibility conditions
  • Follow all traffic laws and signals
  • Ride predictably and signal your intentions clearly
  • Check your bike before every ride (brakes, tires, chain)

Group Ride Etiquette

  • Point out hazards (potholes, debris, obstacles)
  • Call out "Car up!" or "Car back!" to alert other riders
  • Ride no more than 2 abreast
  • Don't overlap wheels with the rider in front
  • Hold your line - no sudden movements
  • Don't half-wheel (riding slightly ahead of the person next to you)

Communication

  • Use hand signals for turns and stops
  • Verbal communication for hazards and traffic
  • Let others know when you're passing ("On your left!")
  • Communicate if you need to slow down or stop

Respect & Conduct

  • Be punctual for group rides
  • Respect other road users (cars, pedestrians, other cyclists)
  • No littering - take your trash with you
  • Support fellow riders regardless of ability level
  • Keep the conversation positive and inclusive
  • No discrimination or harassment of any kind

Equipment & Preparation

  • Maintain your bike in good working condition
  • Carry basic repair tools (spare tube, pump, multi-tool)
  • Bring water and nutrition for longer rides
  • Dress appropriately for weather conditions
  • Have ID and emergency contact information

Group Ride Protocols

  • No one gets left behind
  • Wait at regrouping points
  • Rotate in pace lines fairly
  • Match the announced pace - don't race unless it's a race
  • If you need to leave early, inform the ride leader

Emergency Procedures

  • Stop immediately if someone crashes
  • Call for medical help if needed
  • Exchange information for insurance purposes
  • Report serious incidents to club administrators

Social Media & Photography

  • Ask permission before posting photos of others
  • Tag the club (@d.o.p.e_korea) in posts
  • Represent the club positively online
  • Share your ride experiences to inspire others
